Visitors highlight the building’s scale, daylight and open views between levels. It is an interesting place to see people reading, studying and using city services within striking architecture.
Allow about an hour to explore rather than trying to cover every floor. Start with the atrium and open walkways, then use the signs to choose a reading room. Reviews praise the children’s spaces, exhibitions and range of books, but some visitors find the two wings confusing: you cannot cross between them on every floor. Most books are in Chinese; ask staff or visit the multicultural department for foreign-language material.
Visit before evening and avoid Wednesday. Official hours for the main areas are 09:00–21:00, but several specialist rooms and exhibitions close at 17:30. The library closes on Wednesdays; separate announcements apply to national holidays. Older reviews about advance reservations or late closing should not replace current rules. Entry is free, with a security check; borrowing books and using certain services involve separate procedures.
For reading or work, a weekday is the better choice: visitors repeatedly mention occupied tables and weekend noise. Quietness varies with the area and visitor numbers, so a peaceful workstation is not guaranteed. Bring a light layer, as strong air conditioning appears in reviews across several years. One visitor reported needing a local phone number for Wi-Fi; arrange your own connection if you have important work to do.
The APM line to Guangzhou Opera House station is a convenient route: Amap places exit B roughly 100 metres away. Continue onto Huacheng Square after your visit. Keep quiet inside and avoid disturbing readers for photographs; the library remains a place of study even when visitors come for its architecture.
