Overview
Tianmen Mountain National Forest Park is a UNESCO World Heritage site and 5A-rated scenic area located just 8 kilometers from Zhangjiajie city center. The park's crown jewel is Tianmen Cave (Heaven's Gate), a massive natural arch measuring 131.5 meters high, 57 meters wide, and 60 meters deep, formed by geological collapse in 263 AD during the Three Kingdoms period. The mountain rises to 1,518.6 meters above sea level and features a unique karst terrace landform with dramatic cliffs, lush primitive secondary forests, and breathtaking panoramic views.

Most visitors are awestruck by the three main attractions: the 7,455-meter-long cableway (Asia's longest alpine cableway) offering 28-minute rides with spectacular views of Zhangjiajie city and the 99-bend mountain road below; the thrilling glass skywalks suspended 1,400 meters above sea level along sheer cliffs; and the magnificent Tianmen Cave itself, accessible via 999 steep steps or a series of mountain escalators. The park is divided into West and East routes, with the West Route featuring the famous Guigu Plank Road (1,600m cliffside walkway) and glass skywalk, while the East Route offers different vantage points and the Biye Yaotai scenic area with pristine forest.

Carry water and snacks as mountain food is limited and expensive. Route A is recommended for easier descent (downhill on 999 steps), while Route B involves climbing up.
