Wudadao is a central Tianjin district of old villas and former political residences, with streets lined by European-inspired architecture. Visitors appreciate the varied façades, shaded walks and Minyuan Square; most of the experience requires no admission ticket.

Haihe sightseeing boats pass beneath bridges between Tianjin’s older buildings and modern towers. A classic cruise takes about 50 minutes and returns to its departure wharf; evening illumination and reflections are the main attraction. Check the wharf, route and ticket type before booking.

Tianjin Eye is a 120-metre observation wheel built into Yongle Bridge. A half-hour ride in an enclosed cabin reveals the river and surrounding neighbourhoods, while the waterfront and Jingang Bridge offer views of the wheel reflected in the water. Evenings bring lights, higher fares and longer queues.

Ancient Culture Street brings together Tianhou Temple, clay figurines, Yangliuqing New Year prints and Tianjin snack stalls. Look beyond the ornate gateways for working craftspeople and painted shopfronts, then continue to the Haihe waterfront.

An ancient trading hub in Jizhou (northern Tianjin) dating back over a millennium. Once a Tang Dynasty merchant town, it’s now a restored historic street lined with Qing-style architecture, temples, and food stalls. Visitors can explore the Drum Tower, Liao-era Dule Temple, and enjoy local snacks in a lively old-world atmosphere.

Tianjin’s Italian Quarter occupies part of a former foreign concession, with villas, turrets and Marco Polo Square alongside restaurants and bars. Daylight suits architectural details; late afternoon lets you combine the buildings, evening illumination and the Haihe waterfront.

Zhang Xueliang’s Tianjin residence explores the military leader’s domestic life with Zhao Yidi. Recreated living rooms and reception spaces fill a three-storey mansion, while an adjoining period street hosts performances. Visitors particularly value the detailed tours and atmospheric interiors.

Zhangyuan is a small museum complex on the site of a residence where Sun Yat-sen and the last emperor, Puyi, stayed. Exhibitions trace different periods of Tianjin’s history, while costumed performers lead visitors through scenes set in the past.

Yangliuqing, on Tianjin’s western outskirts, is known for New Year prints, the Shi family residence and walks beside the canal. Historic buildings sit alongside renewed shopping streets. Come for crafts and merchant history, but check access to the residence, which underwent restoration in 2026.
