Attraction

Red Theater — Acrobatic Show

Red Theater — Acrobatic Show · 红剧场 · Hóng Jùchǎng

B+

At Beijing’s Red Theater, performers juggle hats, balance on a tower of chairs and ride motorcycles inside a metal globe. Visitors praise their skill but warn that the building, seats and admission arrangements fall well short of the performance.

Longqing Gorge

Attraction

Longqing Gorge

Longqing Gorge · 龙庆峡风景区 · Lóngqìng Xiá

B

Boats glide between steep cliffs on a green reservoir, reached by escalators inside a giant yellow dragon. Visitors praise the scenery and cooler air but warn about queues, steep steps and the long journey from Beijing.

National Stadium — Bird’s Nest

Attraction

National Stadium — Bird’s Nest

National Stadium — Bird’s Nest · 国家体育场(鸟巢) · Guójiā Tǐyùchǎng (Niǎocháo)

B

Interlaced steel beams, the vast arena and a rooftop walk make Beijing’s Bird’s Nest worth a look. Visitors with less interest in Olympic history can enjoy the exterior for free and combine it with an evening stroll beside the Water Cube.

Gubei Water Town

Attraction

Gubei Water Town

Gubei Water Town · 古北水镇 · Gǔběi Shuǐzhèn

B

A resort town of canals, bridges and recreated traditional streets beneath the Simatai Great Wall. The illuminated waterfront is its strongest draw; allow a full day or stay overnight, with tickets and return transport arranged in advance.

Nanluoguxiang

Attraction

Nanluoguxiang

Nanluoguxiang · 南锣鼓巷 · Nánluógǔxiàng

B

Nanluoguxiang is an old Beijing lane lined with snack shops, souvenir stores and small design shops. Turn into the adjoining hutongs for quieter courtyards: the main street is better suited to browsing and eating than to escaping the crowds.

Attraction

Dashilar — Beijing’s historic shopping street

Dashilar — Beijing’s historic shopping street · 大栅栏 · Dàshílànr

B

Dashilar is a short shopping street beside Qianmen and the surrounding hutong quarter, with old shop signs, tea merchants, cloth shoes and plenty to eat. Historic storefronts and evening lights make a rewarding walk, though the main street gets crowded and much of its shopping targets tourists.

B

A pedestrian shopping street south of Tiananmen, with reconstructed façades, long-established Beijing brands, snacks and evening lights. An enjoyable walk with dinner, though chain stores and tourist shops are part of the experience.

Shui Guo offers a half-day of hot baths, saunas and reclining chairs, with fruit and ice cream between naps. Visitors value the unhurried pace, but quiet resting spaces depend on how busy it gets, while massages and full meals add to the bill.

Wangfujing Street

Attraction

Wangfujing Street

Wangfujing Street · 王府井 · Wángfǔjǐng

B-

Wangfujing is a broad shopping street with department stores, expensive brands and restaurants spread across several floors. Illuminated shopfronts and large screens make an evening stroll more rewarding, but this is not a quiet old Beijing neighbourhood or a bargain market.

Beijing Aquarium

Attraction

Beijing Aquarium

Beijing Aquarium · 北京海洋馆 · Běijīng Hǎiyángguǎn

B-

Inside Beijing Zoo, the aquarium is most memorable for its illuminated jellyfish, Chinese sturgeon and large fish seen through panoramic windows. It can fill half a day with children, though the price, holiday crowds and marine mammal enclosures divide visitors.

Xishan Hot Springs — Joyful Oasis · 陆地游轮西山温泉 · Lùdì Yóulún Xīshān Wēnquán

B-

Xishan combines warm bathing pools, children’s activities, a buffet and resting areas across several floors. Families often make a full day of it, but some pools are closed for renovation in September 2026, and busy periods can make meals and sleep less relaxing.

Beijing Zoo

Attraction

Beijing Zoo

Beijing Zoo · 北京动物园 · Beijingdongwuyuan

C+

Beijing Zoo is one of China's oldest and largest zoos, founded in 1906, located in Xicheng District. The main attraction is the Giant Panda Pavilion, home to several pandas including popular ones like Menglan. The zoo houses approximately 5,000 animals from 450 species across a large, park-like area. While the pandas are the highlight and draw massive crowds, many visitors express serious concerns about animal welfare conditions, with outdated enclosures and small cages for elephants, polar bears, and wolves. The zoo offers excellent value with tickets costing only 14-19 CNY, and is easily accessible via Metro Line 4. Best visited early morning to see active pandas, but expect long queues and crowded conditions.
